Ransomware: Can it be stopped?

After the recent high-profile hack on the NHS, ransomware presents even more of a prominent threat, leaving billions of devices vulnerable to the malicious malware attack.

Not only highly inconvenient and stressful, ransomware presents a huge threat to your business, and can cause you to loose critical data, time and money.

We’ve partnered with Brigantia, the largest subscription partner services community in the UK, to get a first-hand industry insight on the matter. With so many high-profile companies and organisations falling victim to cyberattacks, it certainly begs the question – is there any way we can guarantee full protection?

“The painful answer is no,” says Brigantia’s Product Manager, Henry Chaw. “However, if you take steps as a multi-layer approach to cybersecurity, you will be as safe as you can be against malware.”

The key, Henry explains, is to routinely ensure the following;

  1. Data is backed up
  2. Patchingis routinely carried out
  3. Antivirusis installed and up to date
  4. Security awarenessis established across the organisation
  5. Software restrictions policies are in place
  6. Users administrative rights are restricted

“In addition, Brigantia’s cybersecurity suite has key products which would prevent you from being attacked by malware and secure your data,” explains Henry.

Here are the products he would recommend, and why:

1. Heimdal Security CORP

The cyberthreat security suite with 5 key layers which ensures proactive protection against cyberattack.

Benefits include:

Patching of vulnerabilities – Heimdal automatically and silently patches software vulnerabilities, on a key performance indicator of 4 hours. No manual intervention is required, it is simply set and forget.

Blocking Internet traffic used to deliver attacks – Heimdal Security blocks malicious internet traffic that carries malware and blocks redirects. Heimdal Security prevents infection by filtering HTTP/HTTPS and DNS level traffic.

Blocking and removing malware communication when penetration occurs – When infected, Heimdal stops the malware from communicating between the endpoint and the cyber criminal’s infrastructure (malicious websites, Command & Control servers). Heimdal filters DNS level traffic and blocks these malicious dial backs. As such the encryption key cannot execute and encrypt the endpoint.

2. Data Deposit Box Smart Storage Solution

The complete cloud backup and data recovery solution. On-premise AND on cloud

The Data Deposit Box Smart Storage and Cloud Software product lines offer the SMB a cost effective local & cloud storage and recovery solution for files, folders, MS Exchange, SQL, VMWARE, BMR & more.

3. Bitdefender

Whether you need protection for a single device, small businesses or enterprises, Bitdefender has the product that delivers the best security with unparalleled performance. Bitdefender has the largest security delivery infrastructure on the globe.
