Happy #NationalFishandChipDay from all of us at Johnson Reed!

Join us in celebrating one of our most popular specialist sectors! After 20 years facilitating finance in the fish and chip shop industry, hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of equipment leased and hundreds of happy customers, we thought we’d celebrate with key players in the industry and take a day to appreciate the nation’s favourite dish.
The national event is once again being championed by trade organisation, The National Edible Oil Distributors’ Association, who represent packers and distributors of oils and fats in the UK. NEODA President, Andrew Marriott, comments, “National Fish and Chip Day celebrates the stars who work hard to bring Brits their favourite traditional takeaway. We want to bring the whole industry together to celebrate and showcase the great British institution that is fish and chips.”
Stay tuned as we take a look over some of the benefits of leasing within the industry, the range of equipment available to finance, and revisiting some of the businesses we’ve helped over the years.

Did You Know?

The fish and chip industry is still booming. Recent research by the NFFF found;

  • There are in the region of 10,5000 specialist fish and chip shops in the UK.
  • The on fish and chips in the UK is in the region of a staggering 1.2 billion.
  • British consumers eat some 382 million portions of fish and chips every year. That’s six servings for every man, woman and child!

Who have we helped?

Whether you’re established, growing or starting out, Johnson Reed work closely with your business to tailor your finance to you.

Edwards Plaice, Herefordshire

The Edwards family were no stranger to new-start business! On the side of their new-start chip shop, the family also run and beauty salon and a cattery. Edwards Plaice opened towards the end of January, and proved incredibly popular amongst the locals from the offset. The Hereford Times voted Edwards Plaice as the second best chippy in Herefordshire, despite having only been open seven weeks at the time the poll was conducted!
Johnson Reed jumped on-board with the family business and facilitated the finance for an energy-efficient frying range, which can save up to 60% on energy bills whilst increasing turnover. We also helped fit-out the shop’s interior, providing a cosy, contemporary diner for customers to enjoy their delicious dishes in comfort. By leasing their equipment, the Edwards family were able to preserve their working capital rather than tying it up in assets straight away.
Curt Edwards said of the service, “Johnson Reed has been excellent. They were incredibly helpful throughout the process.”

The Fisherman’s Wife, Headingly

You might have heard of The Fisherman’s Wife, they’re the quality fish and chip shop chain making a name for themselves across Yorkshire! They currently have sites in Whitby, Leeds, Bishopthorpe, York, and now, Headingly. The family worked closely with Mark to secure finance for a brand new frying range for their Headingly site, ensuring high-quality equipment (and exceptional food) was consistent throughout all restaurants. They told us, “We are delighted with the service that Johnson Reed have provided, and we looked forward to doing more business with you, and continuing our growth!”
