It’s been another busy year for the soft play industry, and at Johnson Reed, we’re incredibly proud to have been involved with so many new-start ventures, alongside the numerous projects involving existing operators and our repeat customers in the sector! As the market becomes more saturated, as operators it’s important to be vigilant and take the time to regularly review your offering to identify any areas for improvement. Here are just a few ideas to help you boost your business and bring more custom through your doors.

Situated in Horbury, near Wakefield, new-start soft play centre, The Secret Garden, aims to offer a quality play and educational experience in a safe, supervised and stimulating environment. With many young families in the local community, the business is well-placed to attract custom and offers a range of structured and unstructured play for different age groups.

Airea 51, the UK’s newest indoor adventure park and the first of its kind in Telford, is about to spring into action. At more than 30,000 square feet, the park boasts a wide range of indoor leisure activities, from trampolines to ninja warrior courses.

We catch up with founder and director, Dean McQuire, to discuss his first foray into the industry, the trampoline park potential in the UK and the crucial role equipment leasing played throughout the start-up process.

Established in 1991, ukactive was created as the trade association for the leisure sector, committed to improving the health of the nation through promoting active lifestyles.

We grab five minutes with senior account executive, Adam Farrant, to discuss their ongoing mission, member benefits, important dates for your diaries and predictions for the leisure and fitness industries in the coming year.

Directors, Darren and Lorraine Malt, have made a series of upgrades to the facility, including the introduction of laser tag earlier in the year, and most recently, the purchase of new soft play equipment. As well as upgrading the more dated features, the new equipment has helped expand the existing soft play structures, providing a larger and more exciting laser quest venue for birthday and corporate parties. Now older children and parents can get involved too!

Trafford Park’s Total Ninja is the UK’s first and the world’s largest ninja park at 40,000 square feet. The venue opened in May, and if the first couple of months have been anything to go by, this is just the start for the fantastic new facility and Innovation Leisure’s latest business venture. As most recently illustrated by the conception of Total Ninja, the UK soft play and leisure landscapes are constantly evolving, with ideas and business ventures approaching more adventurous territory and catering to new audiences. Just like the swift uptake when trampoline parks sprang onto the scene, the rise of the ninja park could be imminent!

Being confined by the restraints of a 9-5 job is never the ideal scenario if you have a young family, but an inevitable necessity for most. That said, there aren’t many professions that allow for enough time with little ones! As young parents themselves, Lorna and Steven Hessey immersed themselves in a profession that is centred around and inspired by their own children. Founded in 2012, Bounce-A-Roo was initially formed as a bouncy castle rental service, and has grown rapidly to incorporate a diverse range of children’s party and entertainment services.

It’s been over three years since we helped Wigan soft play centre, Run and Jump, get set up with equipment finance. With more exciting projects in the pipeline, we thought we’d get in touch with Operators, Steve and Regan Tartt, to see how they’re getting on.
