Whether they’re off to university, moving in with a partner, or simply want to give their old mum and dad a bit of well-deserved peace (yeah, right!), it’s never easy when the time comes to let your not-so-little ones flee the nest. As well as learning to focus on the bright side (a smaller washing pile, a fuller fridge…) knowing they’re in a clean, comfortable and safe environment helps to give you that extra peace of mind. This was something that David Thorpe experienced for the first time when taking his son to university.

James Sinclair’s dreams were kindled when he was just 15, after observing a less-than-inspiring children’s entertainer at his younger sister’s birthday party, and knowing that he, the ‘kid who liked to show off’, could easily better the performance. His desire to perform was ignited, and Jimbo the Partyman was born.
His adventures so far have resulted in a multi-million-pound turnover and over a million happy guests at his various sites each year – a figure that is constantly growing. Alongside the aforementioned achievements, he is a highly-coveted speaker, author of life story, ‘The Millionaire Clown’ and founder of Partyman’s Little Stars; a charity that dedicates 100% of its funds to creating magical memories for children that have had a really tough time.

As part of a large CEC modernisation programme taking place, facilities at Crewe and Holmes Chapel were the first of the 15 sites to undergo transformation. Crewe Lifestyle Centre combined several existing and services across the area, as well as children’s services, adult day care services, the library and workspace for council employees, all under one roof. The development under Everybody has also allowed for a café facility to be introduced at the site, introducing additional forms of revenue and creating jobs for five more individuals.

The decline of the traditional pub is a growing concern for many operators in the industry, after The British Beer and Pub Association revealed last year that up to 29 pubs close every week in the UK. The BBPA attributed this decline to high beer tax, competition from supermarkets selling cheaper alcohol, and an ever-changing demographic.
The Crown in Hawk Green is just one example of how a pub has successfully adapted to survive and thrive in these circumstances. Operators, Simon and Claire Hood, took a new direction with their business, venturing down the gastro-pub route to reinstate great quality food and drink at the heart of the trade.
