In the little village of Sherburn, North Yorkshire, couple John and Rita Worthy are quietly building a little business empire, spanning a local post office, sandwich shop/deli, factory canteen, and now, next in the line of new ventures, a local chip shop!

Known locally for their sandwich shop’s large selection of delicious pies and sandwiches located within the post office, and their service with a smile, the Worthys are no strangers to the food trade.

Mr Worthy also happens to operate a canteen in a local factory site that employs 400 staff, so he himself employs 3 full time staff on site at the cafe.

Since 1995, Stockport-based company Adam Polymer have been a major player in the industry of polymer manufacture and has become one of the leading chemical suppliers in the UK for industrial polymers.

What are polymers, you may ask? Polymers are either natural (or in this case) synethic molecules or macromolecules made up of individual subunits (called “monomers”) used to create a variety of ubiquitous items and materials, such as plastics and polystyrene (styrofoam).

The team behind Adam Polymer are father and son duo Bill and Mark Adam. Bill founded the company in 95 with 45 years experience in the industry under his belt, and a Chartered Scientist and Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (FIMMM) certificate on the wall.

Johnson Reed are delighted to announce the opening of a new restaurant and cafe bar in Derby, called Seven.

Based in the iPro stadium, home of Derby County FC, and focusing on “modern British” food, Seven comprises a 100-cover restaurant, plus space for private dining.

We have been involved with Seven for a little while, helping to finance their launch and all equipment based costs including catering, furniture, fixtures and fittings, a sound system, security system, and EPOS.

The Marketplace Fish Bar is a well-established father and son operation, having been traded in the family for 30 years, and has an excellent reputation locally for incredible food and excellent customer service. The restaurant has recently undergone a full refurbishment, and now looks stunning!

We were approached by The Marketplace to help them get equipment finance for a new frying range to help continue making the renowned food, and to help the owners pay for the premesis refurbishment, rather than having to fork out upfront cash lumps for equipment. By using leasing, The Marketplace can use their operational budget to pay for the equipment over a fixed period of time, rather than having to pay upfront. This also gives some pretty great tax benefits!

We posted a case study last month about The Rock and Sole Plaice, a well-established and famous fish and chip shop in Covent Garde, London.

Well today we are delighted to hear that they plan on continuing their expansion in central London by opening a new fishmongers nextdoor! We are all waiting in anticipation for news about when it’ll be ready, and we’ll keep you posted!

In the mean time, we couldn’t help but show you a picture of their quality food, which Johnson Reed director Mark Johnson thoroughly enjoyed when he visited!

When it comes to fast food, here at Johnson Reed the office is split between fish and chips, or pizza. Fortunately, our latest client – Hull’s based Bella Pizza – has a long 15 year history in making some of the best pizzas in Hull, and are now expanding into the fish and chip market by opening a fish and chip shop next door.

We were approached by them to help get equipment finance for a brand new frying range, on a tax-efficient lease. We were able to acquire £30,000 for a frying range and associated catering equipment, with a 10% upfront deposit and the balance over a 36 month period.

We were recently asked to work with a leading air conditioning supplier in the UK, to help provide new IT hardware to update their ageing infrastructure.

Our client is a large nation-wide corporation, with some high-calibre clients, so having a working and efficient IT system is essential to their continued success and innovation. We helped provide over £75,000 worth of IT hardware finance, to allow them to purchase new servers, desktops, various pieces of IT hardware, and new software.

When it comes to food preparation, having sub-standard processing equipment can often lead to sub-standard food, and in some cases can even present a danger to its operators and customers.

So when we were asked by a locally-renowned butchers in Dudley to help provide finance for a new state-of-the-art mincing machine, we knew how important it was that this butcher could get the new equipment needed, and in a timely fashion.
